Born in Baghdad/Iraq. Scenarist,  photographer and film editor.
A critic and a researcher  in the cinematic theory.
Graduated from High Cinema Institute in Bablsburg /Germany (Diploma of Film Editing) 1964.
Diploma of Cinematography,1969.
Worked in DEFA Studio for documentary films and in the  High Cinema Institute in Germany in the field of editing, photographing and direction.
He directed a number of documentaries for the General Cinema Organization, Culture & Information Dept.
In PLO, in Lebanon and  in Germany.
His films won many awards in Damascus Film Festival , Palestine Festival in Baghdad, Carthage Festival and others international festivals.
He edited many well-known Arabic films, e.g. (The Crown of Thorns), the trilogy (Men Under the Sun), (The Daily Life of a Syrian Village) , (The Knife), (Beirut, Oh Beirut!), (Day of the Land), (Returning to Haifa) and (The Night).

(Voice of the Silent Time) 1991.
He directed some experimental films such as: (The Visit),(Plus Colours), (Nightmare), (Al-Yazirli), the long feature film adapted from a story by Hanna Mineh in 1974 , produced by General Cinema Organization.
He edited (Theatre of Change), a book about Bertoldt Brecht.
Published many written and translated theoretical studies about cinema in different Arabic reviews.
Member of the jury for many film festivals (Leipzig, Cairo, Paris, Freiburg and Damascus).
